Open methodology

How our evidence and scoring work

We publish the rules behind our recommendations so a reader can challenge them. Every product in a guide carries its sources, its price tier and the date we last checked it.

Product evidence

  1. Manufacturer pages are the preferred source for materials, dimensions, capacity, wattage, care and warranty terms.
  2. Independent tests (Serious Eats, America's Test Kitchen, Wirecutter, Consumer Reports and similar) support performance, durability and usability claims. We label editorial synthesis and never imply first-hand testing.
  3. Long-term owner feedback is used for reliability patterns only when the same issue appears across multiple independent sources.
  4. Every affiliate click uses a stable, auditable internal route. Commission never changes a score or ranking.

Editorial score

Reviews carry a 1 to 10 editorial score. It is a weighted synthesis of the cited tests against the criteria published in the matching buying guide: performance for the job, build quality, ease of use and cleaning, value within its price tier, and warranty or support. It is decision support, not a lab measurement.

Awards

"Best Overall" goes to the product that performs best across the criteria for most people. "Best Value" must sit in a lower price tier than the overall winner. "Premium" or "Upgrade" picks must justify their tier with a measurable advantage, not just a brand name.

Prices

We show price tiers ($ to $$$$), not prices. Prices, sellers and product versions change daily. Always confirm the current listing and return terms on the retailer's site before buying.

What we cannot know

We cannot measure how a pan behaves on your specific stove, predict individual taste or guarantee retailer availability. Use our guides to narrow the field, then verify current terms and buy within a usable return window.
